Delightful seaside places for salt-flavoured days
Names that speak of holidays: Riviera dei Fiori (the provinces of Imperia and Sanremo) and Riviera delle Palme (Savona province); sandy beaches interspersed with small towns that are true gems of gorgeous authenticity: Varazze, Finale Ligure, Alassio, Diano Marina, Sanremo, Bordighera…
We’re on the Riviera di Ponente, the area of Liguria that lies between Savona and Menton, with its well-equipped beach clubs and short stretches of free beach, ideal for tranquil, relaxing family holidays. In fact, the whole of Liguria is extraordinarily beautiful: a recent article in the well-known international economy and lifestyle magazine Forbes named Cervo (Imperia), Noli (Savona), Nervi (Genoa) and Tellaro (La Spezia) as places to visit and explore during a visit to Italy and Liguria.
Here’s our brief guide for your visit to Sanremo:
Spiaggia Tre Ponti
Popular with young people, this is one of the largest free beaches in town, but it offers toilets and showers, and you can also hire sun beds and parasols, canoes and pedalos.
Spiaggia dei Porti
Located between the Old Port and Porto Sole, a stretch of beach with clubs offering all amenities.
Cala degli Orsi, Bussana
Moving slightly away from Sanremo, this beach faces the beautiful bay of Cala degli Orsi, near Bussana.
Not far from the City of Flowers are some other places worth visiting for a day at the seaside:
Spiaggia di Bergeggi (Savona)
A white sandy beach, partly furnished and ideal for children.
Baia dei Saraceni, Varigotti (Savona)
Golden sand, mediterranean vegetation and limestone rocks.
Spiaggia di San Lorenzo al Mare and Spiaggia Fortezza, Arma di Taggia (Imperia):
A long sandy beach with all amenities, perfect for families.
Spiaggia dei Balzi Rossi, Ventimiglia (Imperia)
This gorgeous furnished beach, with white pebbles and red rocks, is known as the Ligurian Côte d’Azur.
