Seventeen days of music, events and concerts not to be missed

In September Prato turns into an unmissable hive of music for those who want to follow the most important Italian and international artists. Settembre – Prato è Spettacolo, the festival organised by Fonderia Cultart in partnership with the Municipality of Prato, celebrates its 2nd anniversary with seventeen consecutive days filled with over 50 events, most of which free of charge.

The spaces and squares of the old town will host concerts, a lot of great music, as well as sports, workshops and events for children and teenagers. The beating heart of the festival is the main stage in Piazza Duomo, which will host the most popular concerts, intended for a diverse public, yet all of the highest level.

The concert programme will be opened by Gianna Nannini, for the first time in Prato with her History Tour centred on her biggest hits. Verdana and Marlene Kuntz will perform on the same stage on another special night of indie music, unique in its genre in Italy.

Goran Bregovic and his Wedding and funeral band will fire up Piazza Duomo on 3rd September; on 4th September the wonderful Sicilian singer Carmen Consoli will grace Prato with her presence, the only Tuscan date of her tour. Prato will be the only summer stop in Tuscany also for Elio e le storie Tese who will celebrate here a very successful 2016.

The festival grand finale will see the Air, one of the most sought-after bands of the Italian summer, appear in Prato on 6th September in the wake of their successful participation in the Primavera sound in Barcelona.

This year too the Arena in Piazza Mercatale will be dedicated to sports. Four matches of the ancient game of the Palla Grossa, as well as many other events, including the Beach Soccer match between Italy and Brazil – whose proceeds will go to charity – will take place here. The Finger Food Festival is a new addition to be enjoyed in the garden of piazza Mercatale, where food “eaten with your hands” is combined with live music. From 2nd through 11th September the new location of Piazza Santa Maria in Castello will be transformed into “La piazza dei Piccoli”[1] and cater to children.

This is how in September Prato celebrates its love for tradition and history, its well-known attitude towards all that is contemporary, its desire to share the most beautiful squares of its town centre with all those who live, work and study
