Artistic director is once again Amadeus, on stage at the Ariston Theatre for the second time running, but there are many unexpected faces, many of whom are under 35, competing in the Sanremo Music Festival 2021, which has not seen so many participants – no fewer than 26 big artists alone – since 1988, guaranteeing entertainment for lovers of all music genres.
The date with the most prestigious Italian music festival, now coming up to its 71st year,will be from 2 to 6 March on RAI1.
The many great returns include Orietta Berti, taking part in the Festival for the 12th time (with her entry Quando ti sei innamorato), Malika Ayane (Ti piaci così), Max Gazzè with the Trifluoperazina Monstery Band (Il farmacista), Francesco Renga (Quando trovo te), Noemi (Glicine), Arisa (Potevi fare di più), Annalisa (Dieci), Ermal Meta (Un milione di cose da dirti), Irama (La genesi del tuo colore), Ghemon (Momento perfetto), Lo Stato Sociale (Combat Pop), Bugo (without Morgana, with E invece sì), and Fasma, semifinalist in the Newcomers category at the last Festival (Parlami).
Indie music and singer-songwriters will also have their day – all competing in the Festival for the first time are Colapesce-Dimartino (with Musica leggerissima), Coma_Cose (Fiamme negli occhi), Gio Evan (Arnica), Fulminacci (Santa Marinella), and La Rappresentante di Lista, on stage last year as guest band (Amare).
Other Sanremo debuts are the duo Fedez and Francesca Michielin, already considered the winners by many (Chiamami per nome), Maneskin (Zitti e buoni), Aiello (Ora), Gaia, winner of last season’s Amici di Maria De Filippi talent show(Cuore amaro), Extraliscio featuring Davide Toffolo (Bianca luce nera), and rappers Madame (Voce), Random (Torno a te) and Willie Peyote (Mai dire mai – La Locura).
Awarded places in the Newcomers category are Gaudiano (Polvere da sparo), Folcast (Scopriti), Greta Zuccoli (Ogni cosa sa di te), Davide Shorty (Regina), WrongOnYou (Lezioni di volo), Avincola (Goal!), Elena Faggi (Che ne so) and the Dellai twins (Io sono Luca).
