Pitti Immagine Uomo is now in its 90th edition, an important stage in this event which, over the years has become the world benchmark for men’s fashions and up-to-the-minute contemporary style trends.
The first edition of Pitti Uomo was held in February 1972, at the Hotel Villa Medici in Florence, with 43 exhibiting businesses and 526 buyers, including 98 from outside Italy. Over the years the event has continued to grow and grow, marking the evolution of men’s fashions in terms of quality, elegance and international status.
This year’s theme for Pitti Uomo is Pitti Lucky Numbers, with fashion betting on numbers, on their aesthetic qualities, graphics, and symbolic values, in fashion and beyond. If numbers secretly surround everything about our lives, the whole Fortezza da Basso will be populated with a number-based scenography. There will also be a series of projects in the fortress, linked to the overall theme: Rolling Stone with “Wall of Fame”, a vast wall with the 90 numbers of the Smorfia dictionary of dreams, Undici magazine will be installing 11 XL sculptures dedicated to the shirts of players who have made football history. Studio magazine, with 4X4= 2016 will be inviting 4 fashion journalists to express their opinions on the concept of “new classic”.
Also important are side events and Pitti Uomo dates with international fashion. On 14 June, Palazzo Pitti will see the inauguration of KARL LAGERFELD – Visions of Fashion, a special anthological project celebrating the elegant, eclectic photographs of Karl Lagerfeld. Thursday 16 June is the turn of Raf Simons, at an event celebrating the return to Florence of one of contemporary fashion’s great innovators.
