Our interview with Riccardo Ciani, Owner and Managing Director of the exclusive ship’s agency
We went on a tour from Sanremo along the French Riviera accompanied by a special guide, Riccardo Ciani, the owner and managing director of Med Yacht Services, an international ship’s agency based in Sanremo.
What does Med Yacht Services do?
Being a ship’s agency, and not a mere service agency, we act as legal representatives of ship owners, thus, we establish and maintain relations with port authorities and third parties. We also provide 24-hour assistance in order to allow ship owners to focus only on enjoying themselves: from taking care of in-port arrangements, by dealing with port managers and figures such as the pilots of over 50-meter yachts, to ensuring that all paperwork and formalities are completed efficiently, to providing technical assistance and a number of concierge services.
The most beautiful ports between Sanremo and the French Riviera?
The most exclusive ones are Monte Carlo, Cannes and Saint Tropez, but the ports of Antibes, Cap D’Ail and Juan-les-Pins are also very popular. An excellent alternative that offers the advantage of enjoying both coasts is the new port of Cala del Forte, in Ventimiglia.
The ideal tour for those mooring in Sanremo?
A stop at the Ariston Theater and the Casino, a walk through the picturesque Pigna alleys, a stroll along the Empress’s Promenade and a taste of local specialties such as Taggiasca olives, trenette pasta with pesto, Sanremo’s “torta verde” and our “sardenaira”. Another go-to destination, for an exclusive experience of beauty, fashion and elegance, is The Mall Sanremo. And, for a relaxing break between one shop and another, the terrace overlooking the sea is the perfect place for enjoying a good cup of coffee and much more.
The must-see places when cruising between Sanremo and the French Riviera?
The Balzi Rossi beach, Monte Carlo, the Bay of Villefranche, Cannes, including a stroll along the famous Croisette, the Lerins Island, with a stop at La Guérite restaurant, and Saint Tropez.
The most challenging requests you ever had to deal with?
Setting up a recording studio for Mariah Carey, recreating the Monte Carlo casino on a yacht and planning a family party on a boat with entertainment for all ages: magicians and princesses for the little ones, a fashion show and cruise shopping for the grown-ups and a piano and voice concert for the elders. Last but not least, a James Bond-style Jaguar car to take them at a private dinner party on the terrace of the Chevre d’or in Eze. In short, as our motto goes: “anything, anytime, anywhere”.
