The events that you shouldn’t miss

Over the course of six months, a rich listing will unfold across the city and beyond, includign 150 venues, over one hundred cultural associations and dozens of cultural initiatives. These are just some of figures for the 2018 Estate Fiorentina.

The Estate Fiorentina by tradition extends over six months, from May to October. The format is widespread, bringing together organizations and less central places of our city. In addition to the usual attention given to the suburbs and hidden corners in the city, this year will also involve new venues such as the amphitheater, the Santa Maria Novella Basilica, the tramway and the Manifattura Tabacchi. The Florentine Summer has become, thanks to its formula, length, originality and variety, a festival of its kind in Italy.

A few events stand out in the listing, including Eliseo Mattiacci’s exhibition at Forte di Belvedere (2 June-14 October); the Italian Brass Week with brass concerts (22-29 July); Pocket Cinema – an open-air cinema in the suburbs of Florence with a programme that is twice as long as last year’s (16 July-10 August); readings on the tramway on the new number 3 line; Rockin’1000 That’s Live – the great concert featuring 1500 musicians performing simultaneously; festival au Desért twinned with Mali (30 June-4 July); Notte della Taranta in July at the Cascine amphitheater; Cirk Fantastic at Cascine and in the neighborhoods in September.

Then, the ambitious projects will unfold this year: Cinema in the Uffizi doubles its listing (23 June-11 August); Novella classica offers dance performances in Santa Maria Novella (1 July-7 August); Musart in Santissima Annunziata (20-28 July); Florence Jazz Fringe Festival in Oltrarno (5-9 September); Genius Loci in Santa Croce (20-22 September). Other projects include Made in Manufactory at the factory; Eredità delle donne – a project conceived for the city and curated by Serena Dandini (21-23 September).
