Autumn is theater time, the theater season opens in the city with proposals for contemporary theater, dance and new media. Florence, city of art has always been full of proposals and events and in the city the space of the Teatro Cantiere Florida is an exceptional place for contemporary theater.
Reopened in 2002 following an important restoration, the Teatro Cantiere Florida offers today a wide season in the prose, dance and children’s theater. Special exhibitions, interdisciplinary projects, vision guidance laboratories and advanced training courses make the space, located in the Florentine Oltrarno, one of the most dynamic creative factories in the national territory. Cooperating with some of the most interesting organizations on the Italian and international art scene, it offers the best of the new dramaturgy and contemporary dance.

For Materia Prima In December the Compagnia di Sollicciano returns with La Tempesta from Shakespeare with the actors of the Prison; once again the prison space changes shape and opens to the public to reinforce the foundations of that bridge of freedom that the theater has allowed to build over the years. On the 5th and 6th of March, the Controcanto Collective, the group of young artists from Lazio, brings the fruit of the residence hosted last season to the Florida Cantiere Theater: Seventy times seven, a show that speaks of forgiveness, of another possible humanity, that overcomes pain and makes it an opportunity for redemption. This production has won the Theaters of the Sacred and has met since the debut the unanimous favor of public and critics. On March 12, the company Unterwasser will reach Florida with Maze an extraordinary live performance finalist at the Inbox 2019 award in which shadows of barbed wire sculptures will give life to ephemeral and wonderful worlds, drawn from the cinema imagination. Following on March 19th the two actresses and authors Luisa Bosi (backbone of Murmuris) and Francesca Sarteanesi will arrive on stage in Florida with Bella bestia, an intense work produced by Officine della Cultura which debuted at the Inequilibrio Festival in Castiglioncello. A close, tragicomic dialogue that compares the parallel events of two women, two lives, two stories of ordinary suffering and extraordinary lightness. In April the collaboration with the Middle East Now festival is renewed, a space dedicated to Middle Eastern culture with the aim of bringing to light the lesser-known aspects, beyond stereotypes and prejudices. For the third consecutive year, Materia Prima will host a show of contemporary theater at the Florida Cantiere Theater, the result of the artistic instances that cross an area inhabited by a millenary culture, but tormented by conflicts that seem irremediable.
