All you need to know to start the year with a bang
Our yearly rendezvous with great celebrations in Florence offers new and varied events and venues to let you enjoy your New Year’s Eve at its best.
A consolidated tradition is the Capodanno in piazza, which entails spending the evening in the centre of town with music and a host of concerts on offer. By tradition, the main venue for the New Year’s Eve concert was piazza della Stazione. This year the main concert will be held in piazza Pitti, with a view to promoting the Oltrarno area. Piazza San Lorenzo will also host a concert for the first time. Once the stands are removed the piazza becomes a beautiful and versatile space. All sorts of music genres will be livening up the evening antics, ranging from pop music in Pitti, jazz in San Lorenzo, gospel in Santissima Annunziata and classical music in piazza Signoria.
Music will also be key on 31 December with a dedicated event organised by the Teatro dell’Opera di Firenze starring young orchestra conductor Vladimir Jurowski, who will be saying goodbye to 2015 and welcoming 2016 to the tune of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, ending with the Ode to Joy. The concert will be followed by a Gala Dinner starting at 9.30 in the Foyer, taking you smoothly to the midnight toasts.
But you can also choose to avoid the crowds and salute the new year by pampering yourself in the Asmana Wellness World, the wellness and relaxation haven at the doors of Florence just recently inaugurated and already one of the favourite destinations in Tuscany for foreign tourists who have made this city their second home. If you’re still wondering where to spend the evening and wish to relax after some demanding Christmas celebrations, this spa is the right place for you as it will stay open 7 days a week, including the 31st of December from 6pm to 3am, giving you plenty of time to celebrate the new year.
