After more than fifty years, Moscow’s Red Square is hosting an extraordinary Christian Dior fashion show. Raf Simon’s 2013-2014 Fall Winter Collection was presented at a very special location, providing the Russian capital with a truly unique event. What Red Square spectators found waiting for them was a cube made of mirrors, with the fashion house logo. The mirrors reflected distorted images of the square and the blue sky, creating a second cathedral of St. Basil, also distorted with stretched-out domes.

The cube itself contained a great surprise for the guests: the set designed with gigantic mirror-balls reflected the models and garments parading along the catwalk.

The Collection was a perfect match for the location with its graphic patterns on white garments. A surrealistic touch was given by the prints, which were either with a floral theme or portrayed parts of the body, such as female faces or hands, or shoe outlines applied to the garments. A relaunched large version of black and white hound’s-tooth was particularly in evidence.

A very special event, especially since Dior had not had a fashion show in Moscow since 1959 when the Collection was presented at the iconic GUM stores: for the first time in history, Red Square welcomed fashion in a triumph of beauty.
